Bamboo Fly Rod Drive - Ongoing
Michael Day is a maker of fine, custom split-cane (bamboo) fly rods. He is offering his rods to charities that support one or more of The Day Project’s philanthropic interests, namely environmental conservation, mental health and major illness. His bamboo fly rods are made from raw materials in his rod shop. A single rod can take over one hundred hours to complete, and the result is an heirloom quality piece of functional art that excels in specific fly fishing applications. Bamboo culms are split, baked and planed. All metal stock is machined and fabricated into rod components on a lathe and milling machine. Cork grips and reel seats are turned on a lathe.
Michael’s rods are fine-tuned fishing tools that excel in trout fishing applications on small streams and larger rivers.
Such rods may be auctioned off by a charity or given to a worthy program participant.
